HR 101: Wage & Hour Presented by Caleb Setlock
The Fair Labor Standards Act, enacted in 1938 by the Wage and Hour division of the federal Department of Labor, is foundational to organizations because it establishes minimum wage, overtime pay, recordkeeping, and youth employment standards affecting employees in the private sector and in Federal, State, and local governments. This session will review the basics of each of these covered areas, including an important focus on determining “hours worked” and “regular rate” for non-exempt employees.
Learning Objectives:
As a result of this program, attendees will be able to:
1. Understand how their business must comply with the FLSA and PWMA guidelines
2. Determine when employees can be eligible for exempt status
3. Correctly calculate overtime compensation
4. Evaluate child labor laws as they relate to scheduling and job duties
HR101 is a 6-session series of programs designed for new HR professionals. The series will cover topics in the work cycle of employees, starting with Hiring, and later addressing FLSA/Wage and Hour, Recordkeeping/HRIS, Workers Compensation, OHSA, and Unemployment Compensation.
