Workers’ compensation (WC) is a government-mandated, employer-paid insurance benefit for employees who are affected by a work-related injury or illness. WC provides wage replacement for time missed from work plus pays for medical expenses related to the work-related injury/illness. Â All fifty states had WC laws in place by 1949.
