President’s Message- September 2024

Hello Lancaster SHRM!

We snapped our fingers and just like that it’s September! Back to school, traditional work schedules, and the unofficial end of summer. The month kicks off with Labor Day, a day that signifies the contributions, strength, and resilience of the American workforce. Originating in the late 19th century during the height of the Industrial Revolution, Labor Day emerged from the struggles of workers seeking fair wages, reasonable hours, and safe working conditions. It stands as a testament to the labor movement’s enduring impact, securing the rights and protections we often take for granted today.

In the modern workplace, the spirit of Labor Day serves as a reminder of the ongoing responsibility in HR to advocate for our employees’ well-being. Whether through fostering inclusive work environments, promoting fair compensation, or ensuring safety and work-life balance, the values that Labor Day represents are deeply embedded in human resource practices. The legacy of those who fought for labor rights continues to inspire us to build workplaces that meet the needs of today’s employees and pave the way for a more equitable and prosperous future.

In the spirit of appreciating and continuing to build a sustainable workforce, LSHRM is hosting and supporting several events this September throughout the area. Sherman Lancaster & I look forward to seeing you at an event soon!

All our best,

Jen & Sherman
