May 2025 Breakfast Ruby Nolt

Emotional Trauma 101 for HR Professionals

Session Description: Approximately 70% of people globally will experience a potentially traumatic event during their lifetime, and these people are showing up to work with the effects of these events. A trauma-informed approach in the workplace acknowledges the trauma some people have experienced in their lives, and is based on principles such as offering people choice, promoting safety (including cultural safety), sharing power and supporting recovery. This interactive session covers trauma awareness, real-life scenarios, communication tools, and self-care practices, while equipping you with essential trauma-informed strategies to foster a supportive workplace. You will leave with actionable steps to recognize, respond to, and integrate trauma-informed practices into your professional HR role.

Learning Objectives – As a result of this program, attendees will be able to:
1. Understand workplace trauma, and recognize and respond to it
2. Apply trauma-informed HR practices to build trust and safety
3. Implement practical tools to navigate challenges effectively
4. Prioritize HR self-care and resilience to sustain healthy trauma-informed leadership

Approved for 1.0 SHRM and HRCI credits
