The Importance of Volunteerism and Investing in Your Community
As we close out the year, it is a perfect time to reflect on the importance of volunteerism and giving back to our communities. Volunteering is one of the most fulfilling ways to invest in the people and organizations that make our communities thrive. It is not just about giving time—it is about contributing to something meaningful, helping others grow, and building a stronger, more vibrant society.
For me, leading Lancaster SHRM has been a tremendous volunteer experience. I have had the privilege to work alongside talented professionals who are equally committed to advancing our profession. But more importantly, I have seen firsthand how giving back enriches not just our organization, but the individuals who choose to get involved.
Volunteerism is about more than filling a role or ticking a box. It is about stepping outside your usual responsibilities and making an impact in a new and rewarding way. Whether it is mentoring, offering your expertise, or helping with community initiatives, your involvement matters.
As HR professionals, we understand the value of people—and our communities are no different. Investing in them through volunteer work fosters growth, connection, and shared success. As you plan for the year ahead, I encourage you to find a way to get involved and make a difference. You won’t just be changing the lives of others; you will be positively enhancing your own.
Thank you for entrusting me with the leadership of the Lancaster SHRM organization these past two years. I know the organization is in excellent hands as John Shoff steps into the role of President and I am confident he will take Lancaster SHRM to the next level!
I hope everyone has a safe, happy, and healthy holiday season!
Sincerely,
Jen Strobel
