- November Meeting

Cultural Awareness & Diversity
Following our Diversity Summit in June 2019, many LSHRM members asked for additional tips and resources to improve diversity and inclusion in their hiring practices. This session is a follow-up to the Diversity Summit.
In 2017, the foreign-born population in the U.S. peaked to its highest levels in a century, with nearly one in seven Americans now born outside the country. That leads us to think about how businesses can engage new employees, customers, neighbors, and business partners in a positive way that will strengthen our economy and community.
Recruiting and retaining the right talents in the US can be a challenge due to the competition. Companies are always seeking new skills to maintain their business advantage. Traditional recruitment methods might not be useful under particular situations due to multiple factors, and culture is one of them. Understanding culture plays a vital role in people’s day-to-day interactions and decision-making, having the ability to examine and understand a culture can support the company’s efforts to recruit, retain, and engage diverse talents in the workplace.
In this presentation, the presenter will provide tips on how to engage and recruit diverse talents, and the benefit and the expectation of hiring diverse talents. The speaker will also share his job search experiences as an immigrant and as a professional that worked with individuals from 20 different countries.
