MENTAL HEALTH FIRST AID
Presenter: Jayne Miller, Certified Trainer
One in five adults will experience a diagnosable mental disorder in any given year. There is a high likelihood that employers and HR Professionals will encounter an employee struggling with a mental health issue, and may need to address an acute concern in the workplace or provide support to the employee. In the same way that CPR can be used to assist an individual having a medical emergency, Mental Health First Aid can be used to assist someone experiencing a mental health-related problem or crisis.
This program will provide attendees with an overview of Mental Health First Aid and suicide response, to better enable them to respond to mental health concerns in the workplace, and provide support and appropriate referrals to employees. The program will review educational opportunities to equip employers with the information needed to support employees with mental health issues.
Jayne Miller is a certified trainer in Mental Health First Aid and Question, Persuade, Refer. She has been employed at Wellspan Philhaven, a mental health facility, for the past 15 years. Ms. Miller’s passion is providing education concerning mental health issues, so that people, including employers, understand how to respond to mental health concerns and direct those in need to the appropriate resources.
